S ummary : The numerical taxonomy technique of Sneath (1957) was used to differentiate types of Gram negative, yellow pigmented rods isolated from food products. DNA base ratios were determined for representative isolates from each of the major groups formed. A determinative scheme using features extracted from the data has been suggested. The problems of nomenclature of organisms of this type are discussed.
