SUMMARY Sensitivity to novobiocin and lysozyme has been determined on strains of Micrococcaceae classified by biochemical and physiological tests, and also on pigmented micrococci and planococci of known guanine + cytosine (GC) content in DNA. These tests confirm the homogeneity of strains within certain proposed subgroups and also the heterogeneity of others, notably strains in Baird‐Parker's Micrococcus subgroup 7. The results of lysozyme and novobiocin sensitivity determinations, on strains intermediate in GC content between the suggested ranges for the genera Staphylococcus and Micrococcus , and also on atypical strains of staphylococci, are presented and discussed.
