SUMMARY A method is described for the enumeration of coagulase positive staphylococci in cheese. Samples are emulsified in 1% sodium citrate solution and suitable dilutions plated out on the surface of bovine blood agar. After incubation at 37° for 18–20 h, the number of haemolytic staphylococcal colonies is counted. Less than 3% of such staphylococci were coagulase negative.
