The morphological and colonial appearances of a number of species of Clostridium are described and illustrated. The advantages of surface culture on appropriately supplemented media on stiff agar plates for the isolation and purification of anaerobic organisms are given. The use of fluorescent labelled antibody technique in the diagnosis of anaerobic disease is discussed.
