Slices of animal tissue or nutrient agar in Petri dishes can be sprayed with the apparatus described to obtain a uniformly distributed bacterial population. The standard error of duplicate counts of individual 1 cm 2 samples taken from different portions on sprayed areas was approximately 15%.
