Summary The varying incidence of Clostridium welchii in the gut of growing pigs, and the suppression of these organisms on addition to the diet of nutritional levels (50 g/ton) of antibiotics, have been demonstrated. The degree of lecithinase activity of the organisms and administration of antibiotics were correlated. Growth stimulation was not demonstrable in older pigs, though antibiotic feed supplements may have some prophylactic value for such animals.
