Formation of nonane in irradiated bacon has been confirmed by gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric (GC/MS) analysis of irradiated nitrogen‐flushed homogenized bacon in sealed glass vials. Unirra‐diated bacon did not show the presence of nonane under similar conditions.
