A simple method has been developed to measure aluminum phosphide (AIP) in fumigants. Phosphide‐containing fumigants were reacted with water to release phosphine gas (PH 3 ), and the gas was oxidized to phosphate by permanganate. The phosphate formed was then determined by the gravimetric quinolinium molybdophosphate method (AOAC, 1975).
