Radiation‐resistant micrococci isolated from chicken were studied because of their hemolytic properties. Morphology, growth, and physiological characteristics were similar in most ways to the common microcococci. There were some differences in pigmentation, nitrate reduction, hydrolysis of proteins, and salt tolerance. None of these characteristics appeared to be uniquely linked to radiation resistance of micrococci. Present knowledge does not indicate these bacteria to be of public health significance or to pose an organoleptic problem in quality protection.
