The determination of the sliding coefficients of friction of the two major parts of squid moving on a metalic surface required using the whole squid. The investigation of the relationship between the coefficients of friction of the individual parts and the average coefficient for the whole lead to the derivation of a general relationship analogous to the relationship for the center of mass of a body. Specific results from the squid investigation are included to illustrate the application of the general friction relationship.
