Summary A method for calculating the temperature profile in a solid material after a period of microwave heating is described. The calculation incorporates internal heat generation, caused by the microwave radiation, together with other forms of heat transfer. It is shown that the calculated profile, based on the dielectric and thermal properties of water, agrees with experimentally measured temperature profiles in gels of 1% Ionagar in water.
