SUMMARY Commercial naringin, usually obtained from grapefruit peel, was suspected to contain a flavone. A method was devised without resorting to column chromatography whereby gram quantities of the suspected flavone were obtained. The crude flavone was first purified by solvate formation. After conversion of the flavanones present to water‐soluble flavans by potassium borohydride reduction, the insoluble flavone was obtained. Characterization of the flavone led to the conclusion that it was a 7‐rhamnoglucoside of apigenin identical to rhoifolin.
