Summary. The biocompatibility of absorbent paper points was evaluated by a haemolysis test and a tissue culture agarose overlay test. One type of paper points produced marked haemolytic activity and a cytotoxic response in the overlay test. The other types tested showed minimal haemolytic activity and no cytotoxicity. Chemical analysis of the cytotoxic paper points revealed that they contained formaldehyde.
