Summary.  Testing of factor levels is desirable for a number of reasons, including diagnosis of the level of severity of the disease, and the efficacy of factor‐replacement therapy. The older methods comprised the one‐stage, two‐stage, and chromogenic methods, and newer methods, including the thrombin generation test, are now available. This paper outlines the use of these methods and problems associated with them.
