Results are given of 4 years’ sampling for earthworms on a ley management experiment. The ley was found to result in an increase in both weight and number of earthworms. There was some indication that the increase was greater under grazing treatments than it was under cutting treatments. The significance of this increase in terms of soil fertility and crop productivity is discussed.
