A bstract A new technique is developed for calibrating a low‐frequency hydrophone. The technique involves the use of pressure pulses radiated by the Par 0.65 liter airgun when fired at a fixed depth but with various values of initial chamber pressure. The sensitivity of a low‐frequency hydrophone, when determined by the proposed technique, is found to be in agreement with that obtained by using the so‐called “impulse method”.
