A bstract Isostasy was regarded as the impulse response to topographic loading, hence convolution with the topography should generate the observed gravity anomalies. Ordinate values of the impulse response were indeterminate but the zeroth, first and second moments were found to be significant. These could be interpreted as the degree of compensation, its spread, and the displacement with respect to the loading.
