The mineral omphacite is one of the primary constituents of eclogite facies (high pressure, high temperature) rocks. It commonly acts as the framework supporting mineral in eclogite facies rocks found in subduction and collision zones. As such this mineral is under pressure, from geologists, to provide insights into how eclogite facies rocks deform and metamorphically evolve. These insights, which are a key factor in omphacite studies, have implications for our understanding of the processes operating throughout the evolution of mountain building events.
