The island of La Palma in the Canary Islands provides an excellent opportunity to examine the products of basaltic volcanism. In contrast to Tenerife, the volcanic activity of La Palma has been more effusive, and the island has largely escaped the impact of package tourism. The scenery is impressive, in particular the classic Caldera de Taburiente.
