SUMMARY. Interpretation of data collected from a spring‐fed stream suggests the existence of a phenomenon in running water that has not been previously described — salamander drift. Stream substrate and drift collections indicated that pre‐metamorphic salamanders ( Eurycea bislineata ) entered the water train and drifted during the months of April, May and June. Post‐metamorphic salamanders, and individuals about to undergo metamorphosis, did not appear in the stream drift.
