Summary The infra‐red absorption spectra of the ligno‐proteins described in Part I of this series of papers were examined and absorption bands characteristic of the peptide link identified. A reference sample of lignin was prepared from wheat straw and was found to be relatively unchanged by boiling with 2 N sodium hydroxide for 4 hours in the absence of air. The infra‐red spectra of the residues from acid and alkaline hydrolysis of the ligno‐proteins were found to be very similar to that of straw lignin.
