Failure of Phenobarbital and Marijuana to Stimulate the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum in the Human Intestinal Absorptive Cell

. Administration of phenobarbital or marijuana to healthy volunteers did not induce changes in the small intestinal microsomal fraction, as estimated by electron microscopy and by protein quantification. These results are in contrast to the susceptibility of the hepatocyte to smooth endoplasmic reticulum induction by phenobarbital.
