A very sensitive and simple procedure has been developed for the preparation of plant samples before PCR amplification using direct tissue printing. This technique was successfully used for the detection of plum pox potyvirus, apple chlorotic leaf spot trichovirus, prunus necrotic ringspot ilarvirus and apple mosaic ilarvirus, in different stone‐fruit material (peach, apricot, plum and almond). The results demonstrate the general applicability of this technique.
