This article describes the introduction of computer aids for decision making by the plant protection service of Baden‐Württemberg (DE) and the experience obtained. In order to supply current weather data, it was necessary to install a logger network. Operating the programs by themselves, the advisers have direct access to the weather data. Experience shows that the tested computer aids for decision making can be used routinely after consistent automation of program routines. They should be a real help for the adviser, so all programming possibilities have to be used to minimize efforts connected with interactive operation of the programs. Without running the programs as batch files, evaluations for several stations in the region are hardly reasonable for the adviser. In order to get the required acceptance in the Plant Protection Service, some of the programs being tested at the moment need to be revised.
