An attempt has been made to estimate the parameters of a model describing the development process of individuals of Panonychus ulmi at the larval, protochrysalis, protonymph, deutochrysalis, deutonymph and teleiochrysalis stages, using field data on their abundance. To perform the parameter estimation, a population simulation model was linked with an algorithm to perform the parameter estimation. The proposed method for parameter estimation gave excellent results, and so seems to provide a practical means for the development of simulation programs for insect population dynamics.
