A set of 55 isolates of the wilt pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cyclaminis was separated into three groups by DNA fingerprinting. A common genomic DNA fragment was identified in all isolates. This fragment was cloned and found to consist of subfragments which are also present in non‐pathogenic isolates of F. oxysporum obtained from cyclamen plant material, but not similarly linked. PCR primers derived from these subfragments proved to be effective tools for identification and detection of F.o. cyclaminis.
