Bacteria forming levan colonies and not producing fluorescent pigments have been isolated from olive knots and the olive phylloplane in central Italy. By their pathogenicity to olive and their morphological, biochemical and physiological features, they clearly belong to Pseudomonas syringae subsp. savastanoi.
