A model is presented of the Colorado beetle life cycle, with transfer functions from each development stage to the next (egg, larva, pupa, adult). Calculated results have been matched with field observations. In its developed form, the model can be used to forecast the amounts of chemical treatment for different districts of USSR, using 10‐day average temperatures and precipitation. A preliminary forecast is made in October for the following year, and refined in June on the basis of observed meteorological data.
