The importance of measurements in situ within crops is demonstrated. The purpose is to know the different conversion factors between meteorological screen values and the values within the canopy. Canopy effects have been shown on light penetration, temperature regime, interception of precipitation and duration of leaf wetness. The reference station was Ihinger Hof, near Stuttgart (FRG), for the period 1978–1981.
