The principles and concepts which provide an overall prospective for coordinating modeling activities with other aspects of the environment to obtain ecologically and sociologically compatible and economically feasible –pest management –are discussed. The discussion on off–line use of models emphasizes the utility of the models of different complexity in research and management. The use of simple models in the on–line management emphasizes the fact that the accuracy of the model can be sacrificed for more information from the real system. To this extent, implementation does not have to wait for complete and very accurate model development. On the other hand, research and understanding of the ecosystem will increase from complex modeling efforts and should continue.
