Cold winters, a well‐developed bulk handling system, regular inspections of elevator premises, stored grain and cargo ships, and the application of pest control measures when necessary, minimize storage problems in Canadian grain. Research has played an important role in identifying the organisms and circumstances which cause infestations of stored grain and in developing and evaluating environmental, physical and chemical methods for preventing and controlling infestations. This information enables commercial grain organizations and government regulatory agencies to provide high quality grain for domestic consumption and export markets.
