Since 1960, many studies on Ceratitis capitata Wied. have been carried out by entomologists in Turkey. A considerable number of host‐fruits were recorded. In 1961 the damage of C. capitata was recorded at 6.1 ‐ 7.8% in the western parts of the country and at 3.5 ‐ 6.2% in 1961–1965, in the south. The treatment period for controlling this pest has been determined by field observations in both western and southern Turkey. The population density of the fly in the field is shown.
