In Italy, conventional spraying techniques are still commonly used in the South, the Centre as well as in several northern regions. Applications at semi‐low volume (1,800–2,000 1./ha.) mainly on fruit trees and tobacco represent 10 to 20% of the total. Ground equipment is seldom used with low and ultra‐low applications whereas the surface covered by aerial treatments is rapidly increasing reaching now 70,000 ha. per annum.
