Developing follicles and follicular cysts in the ovary\udare lined by granulosa cells. Approximately the size of\udhistiocytes, non-neoplastic granulosa cells have scant\udgranular to foamy cytoplasm and mildly atypical\udhyperchromatic nuclei, which may be mitotically\udactive.\ud1\udDisplaced granulosa cells, derived from normal\udfollicles and introduced into ovarian vascular\udchannels, ovarian stroma and the fallopian tube, have\udbeen reported to cause diagnostic difficulty in histol-\udogy, as they may mimic small cell carcinoma or other\udmetastatic carcinomas.\ud2–4\udThe cells are thought to be\uddisplaced artefactually due to surgical trauma or\udduring sectioning in the laboratory or during ovulation..
