Summary Cryotherapy is a safe and effective way of treating haemangiomas of the oval cavity and lips without complications in adults in a reported series. Two cases of serious group A streptococcal infection after cryotherapy in two children are reported. In conclusion it is likely that these children were undiagnosed carriers for the organism. Pre‐operative nasopharyngeal swabs would have identified this and prevented the complications which occurred.
