Summary A diagnosis of temporal arteritis is important to establish in order to reduce the incidence of blindness due to optic nerve ischaemia and other serious complications. 1 We describe a case in which the diagnosis was delayed as a result of a rare presentation and a normal erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).
