Summary Xanthomata may be a presenting feature of raised serum lipids. The clinical types are eruptive, plane, tuberose and tendon xanthomata and xanthelasma palpehrum. Although some resolution can occur with dietary control and lowering of serum lipids, treatment may he required for residual lesions. All types of Xanthomara may be treated by local excision, and in the case of xanthelasma palpehrum alternative measures include destruction by cautery, trichloracetic acid or liquid nitrogen cryotherapy. Liquid nitrogen is widely used to treat epidermal and dermal tumours and the method has excellent results curatively and cosmetically. We have used this method to treat multiple tuberose xanthomata in one subject.
