Summary Fifty of 102 (50%) children who presented in 1976 with juvenile plantar dermatosis were reviewed with respect to aetiological factors, treatment and the subsequent course of their disease. The results show that the disease is limited to the childhood, and teenage years, exacerbated by footwear in some people, and largely unrelated to contact allergens. However, the average duration of the disease is longer than previously reported and there is an increased prevalence of atopy in these patients.
