Summary Details of a family are presented in which many members had the dysplastic naevus syndrome (DNS) but who showed a high incidence of internal malignancy rather than melanoma. It is suggested that melanocytic dysplasia, although much more commonly a marker for a high risk of melanoma, may occasionally indicate an alternative risk of internal malignancy.
