Summary The relationship between persistent iatrogenic iron deficiency and pruritus was investigated in a group of twenty‐one male patients undergoing a trial of therapeutic venesection. Iron deficiency was induced and maintained over a 6‐month period by repeated venesection. In no patients did this give rise to generalized pruritus.
