Summary Measurements of plasma and urinary steroid levels have been made in twenty‐five patients with varying degrees of male pattern alopecia. No correlation was found between this condition and circulating serum androgen levels. Urinary steroid measurements, however, established a positive correlation between the degree of male pattern alopecia and levels of dehydroepian‐drosterone or tetrahydrocortisone, and also indicated a large number of patients had mild hyperadrenal activity. The implications of these findings are discussed.
