Summary Human leucocyte antigen‐G ( HLA‐G ) is a non‐classical HLA class I molecule demonstrated originally in placental trophoblast cells. Recognition of the importance of HLA‐G to the maternal immune accommodation of the semi‐allogeneic fetus has led to investigations of its role in the suppression of immune responses and induction of tolerance. More recently, HLA‐G has been shown to have increased expression in several immunological diseases including asthma and allergic rhinitis. The focus of this review is the potential role of HLA‐G in immunological airway diseases.
