The number of nucleated bone marrow cells, the number of CFU and the number of DNA‐synthesizing cells in the mouse were studied after injection of hydroxyurea. It was found that one injection provokes a partial synchronization of surviving cells and probably stimulates the transition of CFU from the quiescent to the cycling state. the changes of the proportion of CFU in the S phase makes it possible to estimate approximately a cell cycle duration of about 12 hr.
