Both the latent period and the volume doubling time of 20‐methylcholanthrene‐induced tumours in the skin of SAS/TO mice have been found to be longer for plucked skin than for unplucked skin, even though the cell cycle time of the basal layer cells of the epithelium is much shorter after plucking (50 ± 4 hr) than in unplucked skin (110 ± 10 hr).
