The Pelger‐Huet (PH) leucocyte anomaly is manifested by the presence in the peripheral blood of granulocytes with a non‐lobulated nucleus, but it is generally assumed that this has no clinical effects. However, by careful observation of a group of 85 subjects (from 32 families) with the PH anomaly the incidence of infections, particularly of local nature, appeared to be higher in these patients than in a control group composed of 85 healthy subjects of the same sex and age, observed for a similar period (Table 1).
