S ummary . There are now about 100 people alive whose haemopoietic function has been dependent for 1 year or longer on a bone‐marrow graft. We can be certain that virtually all would, but for their graft, have succumbed to bone marrow aplasia, acute leukaemia or combined immunity deficiency. It is an appropriate moment to examine the current bone marrow transplant prospectus.
