S ummary . The platelets from six patients with congenital thrombasthenia (Glanzmann's disease) have been studied with respect to their ultrastructure and to the changes which occur following incubation with 4% sodium EDTA and uptake of particulate matter in the form of thorotrast and latex following incubation at timed intervals. Platelets from all patients behaved abnormally on incubation with EDTA. Thorotrast uptake was greatly increased in three and possibly reduced in the remaining three patients. Latex uptake was normal to increased in four of the patients and greatly reduced or absent in two. These differences must reflect abnormalities in membrane properties and/or cell metabolism. These findings suggested that there are at least two varieties of Glanzmann's disease.
