S ummary . Two methods of assay of Willebrand factor activity have been used in the study of 20 patients with congenital and acquired von Willebrand's disease. The relationship between the three entities of factor‐VIII complex, Willebrand factor activity, Willebrand antigen and factor‐VIII activity is discussed. Data from thermo‐stability and dissociation studies favour the hypothesis that factor‐VIII complex consists of two closely related but separate proteins.
