S ummary . A new technique has been devised for measuring the amount of human factor VIII neutralizing antibody that is absorbed by factor VIII. The method has been applied to factor VIII from normal donors and to factor VIII‐like antigen from haemophilic persons. When the absorption was tested for in relative antibody excess it was found that most haemophilic samples absorbed some antibody but that generally the amount absorbed was less than normal. When a lower antibody concentration was used and most of the antibody present was absorbed by the normal factor VIII, then the haemophilic antigens could be divided into two types. Patients previously diagnosed as haemophilia A + (Denson et al , 1969) provide an antigen which absorbed the normal amount of antibody, while those previously diagnosed as haemophilia A — provided an antigen which did not absorb antibody.
