S ummary . The survival of mature red cells in one patient with Haemoglobin Hammersmith and in two patients with Haemoglobin Köln (one unsplenectomized) has been measured simultaneously using 51 Cr and DF 32 P. The results indicate that either isotope label gives the same value for mean red cell lifespan. This is discussed in terms of the mechanism of red cell destruction in patients with unstable haemoglobin disorders.
